Intended learning outcomes

After approval in the course unit, the student should have the ability to:

  1. Know the fundamentals of Biochemistry and its relationship with other scientific fields;
  2. Gain knowledge of the terminology and nomenclature in Biochemistry;
  3. Relate structure to reactivity and biological function of important classes of biomolecules and aggregates;
  4. Know the diversity of the living world. Identify the structures of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells and understand the cellular functions;
  5. Learn about three dimensional structure of enzymes, enzyme kinetics and mechanisms of regulation of enzyme activity;
  6. Interpret the chemistry of fundamental biological processes;
  7. Understand replication and transcription of genomic DNA and recognize its importance for cell activity;
  8. Understand the mechanism of protein biosynthesis;
  9. Present competences to use the acquired knowledge in the study autonomously new subjects in the area.
