Intended learning outcomes
After approval in the course unit, the student should have the ability to:
- Know the fundamentals of Biochemistry and its relationship with other scientific fields;
- Gain knowledge of the terminology and nomenclature in Biochemistry;
- Relate structure to reactivity and biological function of important classes of biomolecules and aggregates;
- Know the diversity of the living world. Identify the structures of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells and understand the cellular functions;
- Learn about three dimensional structure of enzymes, enzyme kinetics and mechanisms of regulation of enzyme activity;
- Interpret the chemistry of fundamental biological processes;
- Understand replication and transcription of genomic DNA and recognize its importance for cell activity;
- Understand the mechanism of protein biosynthesis;
- Present competences to use the acquired knowledge in the study autonomously new subjects in the area.
